Dan Charlton - Principal
Dan is a visionary Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) leader with over 15 years of experience driving safety excellence across complex industries, including manufacturing, automotive, defense, and craft brewing. Renowned for his innovative, research-backed approach, he has a proven track record of building robust EHS programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and cultivating collaborative safety cultures that empower teams and elevate performance.
A standout in his field, Dan was among the youngest damage controlmAn selected to provide EHS consulting for the U.S. Navy’s newest fleet of ships, showcasing his early expertise in hazardous materials management, process safety, and industrial hygiene. His strategic mindset, paired with sharp financial acumen, has consistently delivered cost-effective solutions and operational success.
As EHS Manager at New Belgium Brewing, Dan transformed the company’s safety landscape, overseeing 1,000+ indirect reports across three sites. He pioneered a proprietary reporting tool to streamline processes, modernized the craft beer safety program from the ground up, and launched 23 tailored initiatives—spanning security, audits, and training—ensuring a secure workplace for all. Previously, as Maintenance Manager at Cardinal Glass Industries, he boosted operational efficiency and safety by introducing cutting-edge training tools and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Dan’s foundational achievements stem from his time as an E-6 Damage Controlman in the U.S. Navy, where he led teams to enhance mission readiness, slashed deficiencies, and earned three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals for his impactful work in safety and equipment refurbishment. His calm confidence and meticulous attention to detail shine through in his ability to establish two EHS programs from scratch for recent employers.
Currently pursuing an MBA at the College of William & Mary, Dan holds an M.S. in Safety Management from West Virginia University and a Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) certification. Passionate and forward-thinking, he is committed to advancing EHS practices and leaving a lasting legacy of safety and organizational excellence.
